Recital brings faculty, student, guest harpists to Rowan stage
October 23, 2009The sound of the harp is multiplied when Kimberly Rowe welcomes four other harpists to her recital on Wednesday, November 4 at 8 pm in Boyd Recital Hall, part of the Rowan University College of Fine & Performing Arts Faculty Spotlight Series.
Guest artists Maryanne Meyer and Peter Speziale and Rowan students Andrea Chieffo and Elsie Albone join Rowe for a program including Absidioles by Bernard Andres, Marcel Tournier's Sonatine and an adaptation of Ravel's Mother Goose Suite. Additionally, flutist Ed Schultz and violist Shelley Weiss accompany Rowe in a performance of Bernard Rands' Prelude and sans voix parmi les voix.
Rowe is one of Philadelphia's most active harpists, having performed with the region's top ensembles including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and others. She appears regularly with Network for New Music, one of the region’s premiere contemporary music groups, and also performs frequently in Atlantic City showrooms for stars such as Tony Bennett, Bernadette Peters and Josh Groban. In addition to her work with ensembles, Rowe has performed as a soloist around the world including engagements at the Palace Hotel in Tokyo, the Manza Beach Hotel in Okinawa, the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island in Michigan and the Four Seasons Hotel in Philadelphia, where she served as resident harpist for two years. Rowe has performed in Europe, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean aboard the QE2 ocean liner. She has been a featured performer at major harp events around the world including the American Harp Society National Conference, Lyon & Healy’s International Jazz and Pop Harpfest and the 2002 World Harp Congress in Geneva, Switzerland, as a member of the Salzedo Harp Ensemble.
Boyd Recital Hall is located in Wilson Hall on the campus of Rowan University, Route 322 in Glassboro, NJ. All Faculty Spotlight Series events are free and open to the public.
