October 27, 2009

U.S. Paralympian April L. Holmes, a gold medalist and world record holder in track and field, will share her story of success with the Rowan University community on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m. in Room 221 of the Chamberlain Student Center.

Holmes holds the world records (women's T44 classification) in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes and has won 16 gold medals in competitions. Most recently, she won the gold medal in the 100-meter dash in the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, China.

After losing her left leg in a train accident, Holmes became a Paralympic athlete in 2002.

She established the April Holmes Foundation, a non-profit organization based in South Jersey, which assists people with physical and developmental disabilities.

The University's Academic Success Center and Disability Resources are sponsoring her appearance.
