Three days of activities to showcase Rowan during Family Weekend 2009

November 09, 2009

From cultural events and a service project to academic offerings and sports, family members of Rowan University students will get a true taste of college life during the University's annual Family Weekend, which runs Friday, Nov. 13 through Sunday, Nov. 15.

"Family Weekend is one of the most popular weekends of the year here at Rowan," says Julie Peterson of Rowan's Office of Student Enrichment & Family Connections, who notes that the weekend attracts upwards of 1,000 family members each fall.

"We've worked to provide a full schedule of activities that showcase the true depth and breadth of the Rowan University experience."

Family Weekend has grown through the years from a block party and football game into a three-day "extravaganza" that offers family members the opportunity to explore all facets of the University.

This year, families can sit in on academic classes, enjoy arts exhibits and concerts, take in sporting events, learn about student services and even learn about career and internship opportunities for students.

This year, family members can even contribute to Rowan's long-standing tradition of community service by participating in a Family Donation Project as part of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. Families are being asked to bring non-perishable food items, gift cards and "turkey vouchers" to benefit the Food Bank of South Jersey.
