Poet Alice Notley to read at Rowan University
April 06, 2010Paris-based poet Alice Notley will read from her works on Monday, April 26, at 7 p.m. in the Rowan University Art Gallery in Westby Hall.
The reading is free and open to the public.
The author of more than 20 books of poetry, including The Descent of Alette and Mysteries of Small Houses, Notley was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the recipient of the Los Angeles Times Book Award for Poetry.
In 2001, she received an Academy Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. That same year, she received the Poetry Society of America's Shelley Memorial Award.
In 2007, Notley's Grave of Light: New and Selected Poems 1970-2005 received the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize from the Academy of American Poets.
Born in Arizona, Notley grew up in California and has earned a reputation as one of the most challenging and engaging poets working today. She was an important force in the eclectic second generation of the so-called New York School of Poetry.
