High school students can RISE in Rowan Engineering

April 14, 2010

High school students throughout the region are invited to Rowan's Introduction for Students to Engineering (RISE), a three-day workshop experience that features laboratory clinics, engineering activities, campus and industry tours, and mentoring by College of Engineering professors and students.

The workshop will run from Tuesday, July 20 to Thursday, July 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at Rowan Hall, the College of Engineering building.

According to Melanie Basantis, Rowan’s engineering outreach director and RISE program director, the three-day-workshop provides an overview of engineering and what engineers do, along with familiarization with Rowan’s engineering majors.

“The program also provides students with a glimpse of college life,” Basantis said. “Students walk away with the confidence in knowing what engineering is about and the determination to pursue it, should that be their decision.”

Students also will be exposed to how engineers assist underdeveloped regions obtain safe drinking water through Rowan’s student chapter of Engineers Without Borders™.

All high school students interested in engineering are invited to apply (by May 13), and admission is rolling. The competitive program is just one of Rowan's many offerings for K-12 students and educators.
