Atanasiu concludes Faculty Spotlight Series with cello recital

Concluding Rowan University’s 2009-2010 Faculty Spotlight Series, noted cellist George Atanasiu offers a recital on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 8 pm in Boyd Recital Hall.

Atanasiu is joined by pianist Brady Millican and violinist Lenuta Ciulei for this performance. The program includes John Verrall’s Sonatina for violoncello and piano, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Sonata Op. 5, No.2 for violoncello and piano and Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s Trio No.2 in C Minor Op. 66 for violin, violoncello and piano.

The Romanian-born Atanasiu has performed with major orchestras and chamber music ensembles in Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Romania and the United States. A graduate of the Bucharest Music Academy, he studied with Serafim Antropov, Petre Lefterescu, Uzi Wiesel and Laszlo Meszo. He has earned top prizes in Romanian national music festivals and at the Florence Vittorio Gui International Chamber Music Competition. Atanasiu has participated in such prestigious music festivals as Bayreuth Youth Festival, International Music Seminar Weimar, Hitzacker Chamber Music Academy and Carmel Bach Festival. In addition to performing and teaching, he has served as associate conductor of the Main Line Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia.
