Rowan hosts engineering workshop for S.J. teachers and students

July 01, 2010

More than 50 K-12 educators and high school seniors from throughout the South Jersey area will participate in hands-on workshops and clinics during the four-day Engineering Clinics for Teachers (ECT) program at Rowan University, from Sunday, July 11, through Thursday, July 15 at Rowan in Glassboro and off campus.

Modeled after Rowan engineering clinics, the program allows teachers to work with engineering faculty on engineering design projects. Teachers get to experiment and investigate a variety of day-to-day engineering-related projects. These are offered through various workshops. Teachers also are provided with teaching methodologies in transferring engineering ideas into their K-12 classrooms. In addition, participants will take a trip to the Atlantic County Utility Authority (ACUA) in Egg Harbor Township to learn about wastewater treatment as well as visit the ACUA’s wind and solar farm, landfill and biogas facility.

Originally, the program was only open to teachers, but since last year high school seniors who are considering a future in engineering or teaching technology are welcome. Participating high school seniors also are provided with knowledge about the engineering profession, discussing different fields of engineering as well as what one would need to know and do to become an engineer.
