Rowan PREP Open House shows off new educational opportunities in the arts

September 08, 2010

Starting a new era in its educational outreach, Rowan University’s College of Fine & Performing Arts announces the debut of the Rowan Preparatory School of the Arts, a new community school beginning on this fall. An open house on Saturday, September 11 from 1 – 4 pm introduces the public to the programming and faculty, as well as Music Together demonstrations, walk-in registration, an instrument petting zoo, Rowan student ensemble performances and piano samplers.

Rowan Prep will open its doors to aspiring performing artists of all ages and skill levels, offering them the opportunity to work with renowned faculty from the university and the region. Individual/private lessons begin on Monday, September 13 and group classes beginning Monday, September 27. This new endeavor will guide aspiring artists by promoting a musical and creative dialogue.

“Rowan Prep will open our doors to the community with programs specifically aimed at young children and adults who have a love of making music and we are intent on nurturing the desire to play and learn together,” notes Jon Robert cart, Dean of the College of Fine & Performing Arts at Rowan. “Music education has multiple benefits so come and find your musical mentor with individual lessons, or sign up for an ensemble that will allow you to nurture and rekindle your love of making music.

Initiating an overall three-year plan, Rowan Prep begins by focusing on music with private instruction (for every age level, including adults) in all instruments, including percussion and voice; group beginner classes for youth and adults in piano, voice, percussion, drum set, and winds; chamber music; and Music Together early childhood music classes for parent/caregiver/grandparent and child (ages 0-5).

A variety of outreach efforts will add to the educational impact of Rowan Prep, including the Glassboro Fine Arts Academy in collaboration with Glassboro High School; access to master classes and workshops at Rowan University; season passes to the 2010-2011 season of fine & performing arts events at the university; student recitals; summer camp programs in music and musical theatre; and an interactive website where parents and adult students can communicate with faculty/administrators regarding practice issues, performances and more.

Registration and program information will be available at the open house. For tuition rates and additional details, visit www.rowan.edu/rowanprep, email rowanprep@rowan.edu or call 856-256-4556.
