Rowan mobilizes University community to aid Hurricane Sandy victimsNovember 08, 2012
In the wake of Hurricane Sandy’s destruction, Rowan University has activated its Rowan Relief program to assist affected students, employees, alumni and neighbors.
Centered around its website, http://www.rowan.edu/RowanRelief, and Facebook page, www.facebook.com/RowanRelief, the program provides a way for people to learn about the state’s needs, request specific support, access disaster relief resources and find volunteer opportunities.
As volunteers are needed, Rowan’s Office of Service-Learning, Volunteerism and Community Engagement will organize day-long, weekend and week-long trips to the affected areas. The first onsite opportunity brought a small group of students to the Salvation Army of Atlantic City on Nov. 8 to help sort and distribute donated clothes, shoes and bedding to those in need.
The University encourages anyone with information about volunteer opportunities or someone in need to email RowanRelief@rowan.edu. Particularly interested in the extended Rowan family, the University encourages alumni to share their stories or request assistance through the Rowan Relief email or Facebook account, or through the Rowan University Alumni Association Facebook page, www.facebook.com/RowanAlumni.
While many volunteer opportunities exist now, Rowan University is committed to supporting both the short- and long-term relief efforts.
