Rowan's College of Science & Mathematics kicks off new industry seriesNovember 12, 2012
The Rowan University College of Science & Mathematics will host Dr. Nozer Mehta, chief scientific officer and vice president of research and development at Unigene Laboratories, as the first speaker in its Partners in Industry Series.
Mehta will discuss the development of "A Unique Oral Tablet Formulation for Peptide-Based Drugs" on Friday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m. in the Rowan Hall Auditorium (College of Engineering building off Bowe Boulevard, Glassboro).
The speaker will focus on the challenges of the oral delivery of peptides, which may be a concern for people with diseases that require chronic drug administration.
Mehta earned a master’s degree from the University of Mumbai, India, and a Doctorat d’Universite´ (equivalent to a Ph.D.) with honors from the Universite´ Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France. He has been a staff scientist at the Cancer Research Institute in Mumbai and a research assistant professor at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
He joined Unigene Laboratories as a senior scientist in 1982 and has played a key role in developing the firm’s therapeutic programs as well as platform technologies for alternate delivery routes for peptide drugs. Mehta is an inventor on several key patents for Unigene.
The Partners in Industry Series will provide opportunities for Rowan students to connect to industry partners in relevant fields. The Series will include guest speakers, workshops and field trips to companies specializing in areas that are of interest to students, with the goal of introducing students and faculty to new research and other advancements that are taking place in industry and assisting students in planning their careers. The Series is a collaboration of the College’s academic departments and dean's office.
