Women's Track Breaks School Records At NYU Fastrack Challenge

NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University women’s indoor track team traveled to the Armory on Friday for the New York University Fastrack Challenge. The Profs broke two relay and one individual school record.
The Profs won the 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays with school record times of 1:43.15 and 3:55.18 respectively. The previous marks were: 1:45.40 (2011) in the 4x200 and 3:57.41 (2013) in the 4x400. The 4x200 consisted of Shailah Williams (fr. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton Twp.), Shantel Beckford (so. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), Joyce Perry (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) and Jamie Thompson (jr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick). Tashay Wilson (so. Hillside, NJ/Hillside), Jewel Brown (fr. Clayton, NJ/Clayton), Melirah Searcy (so. Edison, NJ/Edison) and Brianna Crofton (so. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) were on the 4x400. The 4x800 meter relay with Jessalynn Wright (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), Lisa Jones (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest), Brianna Streater (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Vanessa Valdes (fr. Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) came in second with a time of 9:54.88.
Vanessa Wright (sr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) won the 5000 meters with a time of 18:09.11. Meghan Borz (jr. Buena, NJ/Buena) took second (18:39.60) and Jones was third (18:54.06). Thompson finished third (9.20) in the 60 meter hurdles and Williams had a fourth place (7.94) in the 60 meters dash. Jessica Carlson (jr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) had fifth places in the 60 meter hurdles (9.35) and triple jump with 35’ 10” (10.92 meters). Crofton ran 56.80 in the 400 meters for fourth place. Her time broke the school mark of 57.99 that she set earlier this season. Crofton was also 12th (8.11) in the 60 meters dash.
In the 500 meters, Valdes and Streater were fifth (1:21.52) and sixth (1:21.81) respectively. Lisa Leszcynski (fr. Trenton, NJ/Robbinsville) finished eighth (3:16.71) in the 1000 meters. Brown had a leap of 16’ 8.25” (5.09 meters) in the long jump for eighth place. She came in ninth in the triple jump with 34’ 3” (10.44 meters).
Perry finished 11th (9.65) in the 60 meter hurdles. Wilson was 11th (1:00.58) in the 400 meters and Brown was 18th (1:02.03). Beckford came in 13th (8.13) in the 60 meters dash. Christina Ricci (fr. Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) took 14th (12:00.78) in the 3000 meters. Searcy was 14th (2:19.24) in the 800 meters and Jessalynn Wright followed 17th (2:23.71).
Next week, Rowan will compete at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships on Friday, February 22 at 11 a.m. The conference championship will be held at the Armory.
