Rowan hosts Attracting Women into Engineering for middle school girlsJuly 11, 2013
About 130 middle school-aged girls from throughout South Jersey (and beyond) will converge at Rowan University for Attracting Women into Engineering (AWE) on Tuesday, July 23 through Thursday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. in Rowan Hall (the College of Engineering building off Bowe Boulevard in Glassboro).
AWE is designed to expose girls entering the 7th and 8th grades to the broad field of engineering. The days are educational and great fun, teaching students the technical basics in easily identifiable ways, like making lip gloss and building bottle rockets.
College of Engineering faculty and others teach the girls, with assistance from Rowan Engineering students and AWE alumni. The workshops will focus on hands-on engineering laboratory experiments, professionalism, gender sensitivity and computer training.
This is the 14th year Rowan is offering the AWE workshops.
