Rowan University's New Associate Dean of College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Wins Fulbright FellowshipApril 25, 2003
GLASSBORO - Rowan University's Board of Trustees has approved the hiring of Jin Wang as associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. His tenure at Rowan begins July 1.
After being selected as the new associate dean, Wang also was named a Fulbright Scholar by the Fulbright Program, the United States Department of State's Fulbright Program, the government's highly competitive international scholar exchange program. During his two-month summer fellowship, Wang will attend seminars and conduct research in Brazil about the continent's waters and how they relate to Brazil's history, culture and economy.
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean Jay Harper is pleased to have Wang on board. <+>Jin brings a wealth of teaching and research experience from the U.S. and abroad,<+> says Harper, who himself was awarded a Fulbright in 1996 to Japan to study Japanese higher education. <+>Jin had valuable experience in establishing international exchange agreements and helping to manage quality educational programs in the face of diminishing state support for higher education. We are confident he will use his expertise to serve the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the entire University well.<+>
Wang is the sixth Fulbright from Rowan in the past three years. Associate Professor of Composition and Rhetoric Sandford Tweedie was awarded a Fulbright in 2000 to spend a year in Germany teaching writing theory and American culture. Also in 2000, two Rowan students earned Fulbrights to South Korea to teach conversational English. In 2001, Associate Professor of Law and Justice Studies Allan Jiao was awarded a Fulbright to Hong Kong to research Western due process rules and the Chinese traditional governing principles in criminal justice. Also that year, two students received awards - one to South Korea to teach English and one to Canada to examine changes in accounting practices in the U.S. and Canada.
Prior to accepting the position at Rowan, Wang taught at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for 11 years. He also served as the university's associate dean of the College of Letters and Science beginning in 1998. In addition, Wang has served as a visiting professor at two universities in China. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Kansas State University, an M.A. in economics from Ohio University and a B.A. in economics from Zhongshan University in China. He has had many of his articles on trade relations between the U.S. and China and Japan published in journals such as The Senior Economist, Economic Indicators Quarterly and the China Daily News. He has presented his research at various conferences in China and throughout the U.S. and has received more than a dozen research grants.
