State Awards Funds to South Jersey Technology ParkJuly 06, 2004
The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Office of Smart Growth has awarded The Gloucester County Department of Economic Development and the South Jersey Technology Park at Rowan University (SJTP) a $150,000 Smart Future Grant.
SJTP will use the funds to develop a master plan for its facilities, which will be located at Rt. 322 and Rt. 55 in Mantua and Harrison townships.
?The South Jersey Technology Park is a priority for this county,? said Freeholder Joseph A. Brigandi, Jr. ?The Gloucester County Board of Freeholders has committed a tremendous amount of resources into building the economic environment of our region, and to that end Gloucester County was named 10th in job growth in the nation. We realize that in order to maintain this trend, and to increase economic opportunity we must invest in our future,? Brigandi said. Freeholder Brigandi serves as liaison to the Gloucester County Department of Economic Development.
Noted Dr. Anthony Marchese, SJTP project director, "The Smart Future Grant will allow us to develop a master plan for a university technology park that maximizes job growth and also incorporates the best principles of smart growth."
The goal of the SJTP is to lead the economic revitalization of South Jersey through an integrated strategy of science and technology initiatives. The mission of the SJTP is to expand and strengthen the unique research and learning environment of Rowan University; establish a technology-based entrepreneurial economy; and create value for its surrounding communities in their economic, physical and social development.
The 188-acre SJTP site has a building capacity of approximately 1.5 million square feet. In January 2004, SJTP signed an agreement with Lincoln Property Company to serve as developer for Phase I of the Technology Park.
The New Jersey Economic Development Authority, Delaware River and Bay Authority and Rowan Foundation already have committed $5.8 million, $5 million and $1 million, respectively, to the project.
