Using
Another Program to Access Your E-mail
Server
Settings
Although
we will not officially support any e-mail client for students
other than the NetMail Web Client found at http://cp.rowan.edu
you may, if you choose, use another e-mail program (such as
Outlook Express, Outlook 2003 or Thunderbird) to access your
Rowan NetMail.
You
can use either POP or IMAP to access your Rowan e-mail.
What
are POP and IMAP?
What
is POP?
POP3 is a client/server protocol in which e-mail is
received and held for you on the server. Periodically,
you (or your email program) check your mail-box on the
server and download any mail directly to your local
computer. POP is designed to delete mail on the server
as soon as the user has downloaded it to their computer.
What
is IMAP?
IMAP
provides the user more capabilities for retaining e-mail
on the server and for organizing it in folders on the
server. IMAP can be thought of as a remote file server.
Your e-mail stays on the server and is not downloaded
and removed as it is when using POP. (If you use IMAP
there are additional security settings you must add
to your client. Make sure you take notice of them in
the instructions)
Server

POP server name for incoming mail is pop2.rowan.edu
