Using FTP on a Macintosh to access your H:\ drive from off campus

You will need to install the software program Fetch which is free for educators.

  • Go to the following site: http://www.fetchsoftworks.com,
  • Click on Educational/Charitable
  • Submit an application.
  • Download and install the program.

Using Fetch

Double click on the Fetch icon to open the program

A New Connection dialog box will appear. Type in the information below using your Rowan Network Username.

For your username you will need to put in the following information for User ID: .username.context.rowan

You can look up your full context at http://www.rowan.edu/myhome

If your username was "gangloff", you would put in that name on the myhome page and would recieve the following information:


Once you have obtained your full context you can login:

Once you have entered all the proper information, Click OK.

The contents of your H:\ Drive will appear in a nwftp.rowan.edu window.


To Work on a file:

You will need to download a file to your desktop.

Click to highlight the file, then click on Get. The file will be downloaded to your desktop.

You can now open the file.

NOTE: You must have the software program on your computer to be able to work on the file.
(Example: A Microsoft Word document will require you to have the Microsoft Word software on your computer).


To Upload a file to your H:\ Drive:

Click on Put Files...

When the dialog box appears, navigate to the file.

Highlight the file and click Open.


To Go to the Open Area

On the Menu Bar, go to Directories, Change Directory.

In the text box type the following: //Neptune/common/openarea

Double Click on a folder to open it.
