How do I access my Home Directory?

Your home directory (also known as your H:\ drive on a PC) is a personal folder created for you on one of our servers. Saving your files and documents there allows them to be accessed from any computer on-campus or off. Your home directory is also backed-up every night to insure that you will never lose your files if your computer breaks or even if you accidentally delete them.

Windows PC users can access their home directory (H:\ Drive) by double-clicking the "My Computer" icon on your desktop (or from the Start Menu, depending on how Windows XP looks on your computer) and double-clicking the H: Drive.

Mac Users:.

  • Click "Go" on the Finder menu and then "Connect to Server"
  • Enter the location of your home directory in the following format: smb://rowanads.rowan.edu/home/username
  • Login using rowanads\username as your username and your Rowan network password

Troubleshooting Openarea Access

Windows Users

I can not see my files or folders on the openarea but I do see the O: drive.

Click Start > Computer.
In the folders area (on the left) right click the O: drive then left click Disconnect.
Reboot your computer.
The O: drive should appear as \\rowanads.rowan.edu\common\openarea.
You should see the change after you reboot one time however, you may have to wait a few minutes and reboot your computer again before the change takes place.

After rebooting my computer I see the O: drive but it is not labeled \\rowanads.rowan.edu\common\openarea. The label displayed is still \\filer1.

Click Start > Computer.
In the folders area (on the left) right click the O: drive then left click Disconnect.
At the top of the screen on the menu bar click "Map network drive"
In the Drive field from the drop down menu choose the O: drive.
In the Folder field type \\rowanads.rowan.edu\common\openarea.
Make sure Reconnect at logon is checked.
Click Finish.
The openarea should now be \\rowanads.rowan.edu\common\openarea.
