How do I access my Home Directory?

Your home directory (also known as your H:\ drive on a PC) is a personal folder created for you on one of our servers. Saving your files and documents there allows them to be accessed from any computer on-campus or off. Your home directory is also backed-up every night to insure that you will never lose your files if your computer breaks or even if you accidentally delete them. You can always find the location of your home directory by visiting http://www.rowan.edu/myhome

Windows PC users can access their home directory (H:\ Drive) by double-clicking the "My Computer" icon on your desktop (or from the Start Menu, depending on how Windows XP looks on your computer) and double-clicking the H: Drive.

Mac Users:.

  • Click "Go" on the Finder menu and then "Connect to Server"
  • Enter the location of your home directory in the following format: smb://filer1.rowan.edu/~
  • Login using rowanads\username as your username and your Rowan network password

How do I create a personal web page?

All student and most employee home directories automatically contain a folder called "public.www".

Using any web editor, you can now create an index.html page and save it to your public.www folder. That index.html page will be your personal home page. You can reach this page by visiting http://users.rowan.edu/~yourusername

If you do not have a public.www folder, please call the Support Desk at 256-4400.
