Using the Network

What is my Home Directory?

Your home directory (also known as your H:\ drive on a PC) is a personal folder created for you on one of our servers. Saving your files and documents there allows them to be accessed from any computer on-campus or off. Your home directory is also backed-up every night to insure that you will never lose your files if your computer breaks or even if you accidentally delete them. You can always find the location of your home directory by visiting http://www.rowan.edu/myhome

What is the Openarea?

The openarea is a folder on the network where you can share files within your department, with other faculty members and with students.

E-Mail

Outlook

    Outlook is the e-mail client used on Windows based computers. On the Outlook page you will find a user's guide as well as assistance on specific features and instructions for setting it up on your office computer.

Entourage

    Entourage is the e-mail client used on Macintosh computers. On the Entourage page you will find assistance on specific features and instructions for setting up an Entourage account on your Mac.

Web Access

    The Outlook Web Access client can be used on any computer at home or on-campus (windows or mac). On the Web Access page you will find a link to login and a user's guide.

Using your Telephone

Most employees on campus are using Cisco IP phones

Other telephone resources:

  • You can access the Faculty/Staff Telephone Directory from your phone by dialing x4500
  • You can access the Student Telephone Directory from your phone by dialing x6000
  • You can access the Faculty/Staff Telephone directory online at http://www.rowan.edu/ph
  • You can access your voice mail by dialing x5999

Telephones that are not working properly can be exchanged at the customer service counter located at the Information Resources Support Desk in Memorial Hall. Please call 256-4400 for more information.

Faculty & Advisor Self Service

Faculty & Advisor Self Service is a very easy to use web based software that allows faculty members to review their schedules, class lists or wait lists and obtain contact information for students. Advisors can review students' course work and degree audit information.

Bb-CE (formerly WebCT)

Bb-CE is a very easy to use web based software that allows the faculty to have an interactive learning environment to complement your classroom based course.

Bb-CE provides:

  • Online tools that facilitates teaching, learning, communication and collaboration.
  • A centralized way to extend learning beyond the classroom.
  • Flexible so you can choose the technology that you feel comfortable with or need for your course requirements
  • Password protect to protect copyrighted course material.
  • Anytime and anywhere access. All you need is an Internet connection.

Student Directed Mailing Lists

Support Desk Contact Information

The Support Desk is located in Memorial Hall The entrance is the main set of doors closest to the Greenhouse. You can call the Support Desk at 256-4400 or send an e-mail to support@rowan.edu The Support Desk's hours are 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. The Support Desk has extended hours, 8am to 6:30pm, during the first two weeks of school.
