About Us

The newest member of the Information Resources family, Information Resources Training Services was formed in summer 2004 to meet the technology training needs of Rowan University employees including administrators, faculty, and staff. IR Training Services is comprised of 3 individuals, Debra Denton, Susan Hersh, and Denise Ruggieri, with a combined training/educational experience of over 25 years. Georgette Sahm, Eileen Stutzbach, and Karlton Hughes of Instructional Technology, work closely with the training team to help faculty integrate technology into the classroom.

IR Training Services offers a variety of training opportunities pertaining to SCT Banner, Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Outlook, Word), special topic Guest Instructor sessions, MAC related topics, Bb-CE, and more. We strive to meet the diverse learning styles of the campus community ranging from traditional classroom setting, open help sessions pertaining to a specific topic, and extensive online resources.

Throughout the 2007-2008 year, IR Training Services offered 108 live training sessions totaling over 650 attendees. Over 39 technology topics were available. In addition, IR Training Services maintained a growing training resources library of currently 300+ resources available at http://www.rowan.edu/irtraining including written materials,

5-minute videos, computer based training, recommended readings, and website links. New resources are added on a regular basis. Since introduction of the IR Online Training Center in fall 2006, the total number of web visits has exceeded 32,000.

Debra A. Denton

As a trainer since 1998 for Information Resources, Debbi is involved with training faculty and staff and developing new computer classes as needed.

Debbi also conducts training classes for nearby county colleges and for the Education Institute, Rowan University.  These classes include software training (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and Computer Basics) and helping teachers in K-12 integrate technology into their daily curriculum.

Before coming to Rowan University, she worked in meeting management and membership management for large medical organizations.  She was also responsible for training of on-site staff for registration and presented computer training workshops for attendees.

Debbi earned a BS in Business Administration from Rowan University in 1993.

In her free time, she loves traveling across country with her family, knitting, reading, scrapbooking and spending time with her family and friends.

Susan O. Hersh

Sue joined Rowan University in May 2004.  She manages the day-to-day operations of Information Resources Training Services, collaborating with departments and colleges to meet the technology development needs of the campus community.  In addition to overseeing program development, her primary training focus is to support the implementation of software used campus-wide such as SCT Banner and Microsoft Office.

Prior to her work at Rowan, she managed the training unit for a medical education and communications company in Philadelphia, PA.  She oversaw the training of both internal staff and external pharmaceutical clients.  In addition to training, she has held positions in graphic design, project management, traffic management, and customer service.

Sue, recognized as 2008 "Young Trainer to Watch" by Training Magazine, holds a MA in higher education administration from Rowan University and a BA in journalism from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.

Sue is an animal rescue advocate, serving as an ambassador and adoption counselor for local rescue organizations. She also enjoys gardening, crochet, and cultural activities.

Karlton Hughes

Karlton Hughes is an Instructional and Content Technology Specialist and has been with Rowan University for over 10 years. He assists faculty in creating a harmonious blend of multimedia and interactive social web content with curriculum and instruction. Karlton also works in video production and web development.

Karlton has his Bachelor of Science degree in ComputerScience from Rowan University (formerly Rowan College of NJ) and received his Masters in Educational Technology from Pepperdine University.

Denise M. Ruggieri

Denise M. Ruggieri joined the Information Resources staff in Spring 2005 as a Training Assistant. She creates training classes, handles registrations, works on the newsletter, helps to promote training services, updates the IR Online Training Center, authors the blog TechTraining Tidbits, and provides support to the training staff.

As a former Project Coordinator and Administrator in Adult Continuing Education at a local community college, she has worked with individual students, local businesses and large corporations to assess and provide training needs. She has also created and managed professional and personal growth classes and state certification trainings.  

A recent graduate of Rowan University's Master of Arts program in Writing, Denise does freelance writing for various magazines, newspapers and online communities. Topics range from education, to training, travel, and religious matters.

In her spare time, she enjoys learning new things, reading, writing, working with stained glass, crocheting, scrap booking cards, tending to her three pet rabbits, and spending time with family and friends and traveling the world.

Georgette K. Sahm

A Rowan employee for ten years, Georgette is the go-to-gal for the faculty. As Courseware Management Specialist, she serves as the administrator for Blackboard Campus Edition (Bb-CE), provides workshops and training for faculty and staff, manages the faculty development area, supports all online learning initiatives and maintains the IR training room technology facilities.

She is a former public school educator who holds an MA in instructional technology from Philadelphia University.

When she's off the clock, she enjoys scrapbooking, creating stained glass projects, and other crafts in her craft studio, and spending time with her grandchildren and the rest of her family.

Eileen Stutzbach

Instructional Technology Support Specialist

Eileen Stutzbach has been at Rowan for 22 years, first as an Academic Advisor and career counselor in the CAP Center, and for the last ten years in the department of Instructional Technology, spearheading the installation of Rowan’s first TEC classrooms.  Currently, she teaches PowerPoint and iMovie to Rowan’s faculty and students, publishes the iTech Newsletter, trains faculty on TEC room use, and creates multimedia presentations for campus wide events.

In her spare time, Eileen enjoys running with her dogs and spending time with her family in Cape May.
