Welcome Message from Dr. Gallia Continued...
For starters, we have a dynamic new Provost, Dr.
Ali Houshmand, and lots of exciting projects, several of which Dr. Houshmand will help shape directly. Key among them will be the introduction this year of what we are calling University College, a new “delivery system” by
which Rowan will reach more students than ever. Geared toward part-time, graduate,
off-campus and non-traditional students of every stripe, University College
will offer courses during the summer, in the evenings and on weekends -- on-campus,
off-campus and on-line. Through this initiative our mission to make a first-class
education accessible to everyone who wants one will be closer to completion
than ever.
Later this year look for a groundbreaking on Rowan Boulevard, a smart-growth
initiative to link our beautiful main campus with the Glassboro
community.
Plans for Rowan Boulevard include an all-new, 100-room hotel/conference center,
and shopping, dining and housing in the historic downtown, just minutes from
campus.
Under the leadership of Dr. Farish, behind-the-scenes work continues
on the development of Rowan West. The 600-acre project in neighboring Harrison
and Mantua townships will ultimately include new ball fields, student housing,
academic buildings, shopping and more. Work also continues on planning and
funding a professional-grade soccer stadium on the site.
With ground broken
on the Innovation Center, the first phase of the South
Jersey Technology Park at Rowan University is also underway and will move forward this school year.
Lastly,
Rowan’s ever-growing commitment to education is as strong as ever. Among new developments is an all-new Masters degree in criminal justice and
flexible, organic curricula that grow with our students’ needs
and interests.
As you can see, today, more than ever, Rowan University is a
big, busy place. And as it grows University Relations will be here to tell
you all about it.
