The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences ( RowanGSBS )
RowanGSBS is South Jersey's center for biomedical research located on the RowanSOM (School of Osteopathic Medicine) campus. We have all the benefits of a large university but with a small campus feel in Stratford, NJ. Our state-of-the-art research facilities are fully equipped to answer the latest, toughest questions in biomedical research and were founded to provide graduate training in the many disciplines of biomedical science. We seek to attract talented students to our programs and develop well-trained, enthusiastic research scientists who are equipped to address critical deficits in our knowledge of the biomedical sciences, specializing in cell and molecular biology research.
Carnegie Research designation earned: The July 2013 integration of SOM and GSBS with Rowan University immediately expanded the university’s reputation, reach and research prowess. In 2017, the University became a Carnegie-classified national public research institution, a prestigious distinction, resulting from the number of doctorates awarded annually. In December 2018, Rowan was elevated to a Carnegie R2 (high research) institution, a level of achievement earned by fewer than 150 of the more than 4,300 colleges and universities in America. The Carnegie R2 designation cemented Rowan’s profile as one of the nation’s fastest-growing public research universities and opened the doors to expanded research funding.
