Program Spotlight

When Camron Casper, Ph.D. chose to move from Texas to New Jersey in 2013 to become a Rowan professor of human resources management, one thing most stood out to him about the program: “When compared to other students, Rowan students are more well-rounded and better prepared to enter the field, thanks in part to the strong internship program. It really impressed me.”

The Human Resources Management major prepares students for the human resources profession using a blend of classroom, extra- and co-curricular experiences, including project-based learning assignments and one mandatory internship.

“We have a strong network of human resources professionals,” Casper says. “We have the ability and the contacts to provide strong internship experiences that help students to build the foundation for their career.”

Each month the Rowan chapter of the Society for Human Resources Management brings in outside guests to speak to students. The speakers are usually Rowan graduates, and discuss topics such as resume building, job hunting or offer a snapshot of what they handle in their jobs. “We strive to bring in professionals from all facets of human resources, including recruitment, compensation and HR generalists, so that they can provide an overall perspective of the field.”

In addition, our students enjoy a high acceptance rate for master’s programs in human resources management and almost 100% of graduates are employed in human resources or managerial roles.

The structure of the course sequence also makes a dual-major with management attainable. Casper finds that many students either double major or choose to take electives from the corresponding major.

A former vice president of human resources for Citi, Casper says, “I enjoy Rowan human resources management students. They are eager to learn, which makes for a great teaching environment, and they are eager to get out into the workforce.”
