ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM

About

Rowan University's ELP is located on the Camden campus. For over 50 years, the ELP has provided students the English language, academic skills, and cultural understanding to succeed in their educational and career goals.

The ELP allows students to experience the US university life while learning the language and culture of the US. Each year students from all over the world study at the ELP as part of the active university community.

Our Mission

The English Language Program at Rowan University provides our students with the English language, academic skills, and cultural understanding to succeed in their educational and career goals in the United States. We do this by hiring the most highly qualified instructors and staff and maintaining a student-centered philosophy.  It is important we have a learning culture that embraces the exploration of cross-cultural ideas in a comprehensively supportive environment that connects students with the wider university and surrounding communities.

Why Rowan ELP

Automatic University Admission: Successful completion of the ELP(completion of Level 5, with a minimum GPA score of 3.0) can be used as proof of language proficiency for university admission into undergraduate and graduate degrees of study. Students who complete the ELP must still meet all other academic requirements for university admission and must provide Certificate of Completion and letter from Director of ELP. Read more here.

High-Quality Instructors: Our teachers are highly education and have a student-centered philosophy so that our program can meet all its students’ needs.

University Experience: Students will very likely live in student housing on the main campus in Glassboro, NJ, but most of the class will be in Camden. Students have access to a free shuttle bus from Glassboro to Camden every day. Also, students have access to all the benefits and opportunities offered on the main campus including the student center, library and other facilities and events.

Counseling: We provide counseling in visa, college and graduate school applications. “We strive to foster a learning culture that embraces the exploration of cross-cultural ideas in a comprehensively supportive environment that connects students with the wider university and surrounding communities,” said ELP Assistant Director and Student Advisor, Jay Tran.

Support Services: We are available to help our students as much as we can. We provide guidance with opening bank accounts, getting a driver’s license and more.

Outside the Classroom: We aim to make this experience not just a positive one, but a memorable one.  In addition to orientation, counseling, and tutoring, the ELP takes students to local and regional sites so they can begin to expand their experiences beyond the classroom.  Students may visit Philadelphia, New Jersey Beaches, New York City, Washington, DC, New Hope, Amish Country.  There are also smaller trips coordinated by teachers throughout the semester.
