ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM

ELP Admissions

This intensive five-level, non-credit program provides face-to-face classes from Academic Reading & Writing to Oral Presentation Skills. This is a full-time class schedule, consisting of 13-14 weeks, Monday-Thursday 9AM-3PM. After taking the placement test, you will be placed in the level that best meets your understanding of the English language.

Successful Completion of ELP

International students and some permanent residents must show proof of English language proficiency as outlined below.

Proof of English Language Proficiency:
Prospective students must meet ONE of the following as proof of English language proficiency:

  • TOEFL: minimum score of 79 for Traditional Admissions or minimum score of 70 (minimum writing band score 20) for Pathway Program – official scores must be sent directly to Rowan from the test provider
  • IELTS: minimum score of 6.0 for Traditional Admissions or minimum score of 5.5 (minimum writing band score 5.0) for Pathway Program – official scores must be sent directly to Rowan from the test provider
  • Successful completion of Rowan’s English Language Program – must provide Certificate of Completion and letter from Director of ELP.
    • Successful completion of the ELP is defined as completion of the ELP level 5 with a minimum GPA score of 3.0.

**Successful completion of the ELP can be used in place of the TOEFL or IELTS scores as proof of English language proficiency for university admission into undergraduate and graduate degrees of study. Students who use the ELP in place of the TOEFL or IELTS scores must still meet all other academic requirements for university admission and must provide Certificate of Completion and letter from Director of ELP. 

 

English Language Program High Achievers Scholarship for International Students

This merit-based scholarship recognizes the outstanding work of international students who study in Rowan’s English Program in order to meet the university admissions English language requirement. This scholarship uses a combination of secondary school GPA and Rowan ELP GPA.

  • Students must maintain full-time status and a minimum 3.0 GPA to renew scholarship for up to 4 years (8 semesters).
  • SAT Range = Combined total score of SAT Critical Reading + SAT Math. Writing score is not considered.
  • ACT Scores will be converted to determine the SAT range.

 

Prospective undergraduate students interested in applying to the Pathway Program or Conditional Admission need to apply directly to the University Undergraduate Admissions.  

Prospective graduate students interested in applying for Conditional Admission need to apply directly to the University Graduate Admissions.
