Class Experience

Both the Music and the Theatre & Dance departments perform in the recently refurbished 895-seat Pfleeger Concert Hall. The hall is fully equipped with state-of-the-art sound and light systems and includes a 53-rank Wicks pipe organ.

Wilson Hall features a 225-seat recital hall, choral and instrumental rehearsal halls, numerous classrooms, 80 practice rooms and 40 studio offices. Special features include an electronic composition lab, a music library with stereophonic and computer laboratories and 17-station Mac lab for composition and other studies.

The newly renovated historic Tohill Theatre seats 320 and is home to the majority of the Theatre & Dance Department Mainstage productions. Our Studio Theatre is an intimate black box that allows for multiple configurations. Dance classes and rehearsals are housed in dedicated dance studios, and the new Acting Studio contains acting and performance classes.

The Department of Music offers for music majors and minors, applied instruction in composition, brass (trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba), guitar, jazz improvisation, keyboard (piano, organ, accordion), percussion, woodwinds (flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone), and voice. Students in other disciplines are invited and encouraged to take part in ensembles and other activities within the Department of Music. The Department of Music is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music and sponsors chapters of Grammy U, the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Sigma Alpha Iota

Theatre & Dance

Our highly individualized and collaborative performance ensemble allows for close faculty-to-student mentorship, abundant Mainstage and student-directed performances and ample design opportunities.

Mainstage productions offer opportunities for students to practice and physically research contemporary performance. We also encourage students to seek out cross-disciplinary experiences, internships and curricula in other programs on campus, regionally and abroad.
