Rowan University offers and participates in a range of funding opportunities for eligible military-affiliated students and their dependents.
Purpose For Undergraduate Students: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide assistance to eligible degree seeking military students and their dependents. The Military Appreciation Scholarship will award eligible in-state students an annual award of $2,000 ($1000 in each of the fall and spring semesters). The Military Appreciation Scholarship is a general scholarship that helps with any cost associated with attending Rowan University. For out-of-state students, the Military Appreciation Scholarship will award them in-state tuition cost. The scholarship is only offered during traditional fall and spring semesters and is renewable for four years.
Purpose For Graduate Students: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide assistance to eligible degree seeking military students including those who have retired or have been honorably discharged. The Military Appreciation Scholarship for military graduate students reduces tuition only by 20%. This scholarship does not apply to doctoral programs. This scholarship opportunity will not result in a cash refund and is calculated after all other tuition reductions are applied. Scholarship is only offered during traditional fall and spring semesters.
Policy: Rowan University offers the Military Appreciation Scholarship for eligible military service members and their dependents that meet the definitions and criteria established by Rowan University. Rowan University reserves the right to amend, modify or cancel the policy, terms and conditions and other requirements, not mandated by Federal Law, at the University’s discretion.
Definitions: For the purpose of this scholarship Rowan University defines a Military Student as a student who is currently a member, honorably discharged or a retired member of the Armed Forces or National Guard. Eligible agencies include:
- Air Force
- Army
- Coast Guard
- Marines
- Navy
- National Guard
- ROTC
For the purpose of this scholarship Rowan University defines a Dependent as a spouse or child of a veteran as defined above. Eligible dependents include:
- Spouse of the veteran
- Biological children of the veteran.
- Adopted children of the veteran.
- Children under legal guardianship of a veteran.
Eligibility:
- Military Service member or Dependent
- Be a matriculated, full time student
- Maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.5
- Must file a FAFSA
- Registered with the Military Services Office
Procedures:
- Complete Military Services Office forms. (To receive these forms students must complete new student onboarding)
- Completed FAFSA on file with Rowan University’s Office of Financial Aid
- Provide proof of service or dependency, to the Military Services Office. This information can be submitted via email (militaryserviceoffice@rowan.edu). Please include your student's name and Banner ID number. Only one of the following items is needed to provide proof:
- Accepted forms of proof for service members include:
- Current Military ID card
- DD-214 Member 4 Copy
- Certificate of Eligibility for VA Education Benefits.
- NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility)
- Dependents will have to provide proof of dependency. Accepted forms of proof include:
- Current Dependent ID card
- Veterans DD-214, with a copy of adoption, birth, or marriage certificate
- Certificate of Eligibility for VA Education Benefits
- Command letter verifying your dependent status
- Accepted forms of proof for service members include:

Need-based federal and State financial aid is determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Browse ScholarshipsRowan University offers a military deferment for any student registered with the military services office. This special deferment is cost free to the student and holds their entire bill until the 3rd of the last month of the semester for payment. This allows any payments that are coming from the Department of Veterans Affairs to be added to your account prior to payment. Students must sign up for the deferment every semester to activate it and you can sign up if you have a previous balance.
Follow the directions below to enroll in the Military Tuition Deferment Plan so that your bill will be on hold until 5/3, 8/3 or 12/3 (depending on the corresponding semester), meaning you will not be penalized for non-payment while the University processes your benefits. Remember the new deferment plan does not open until the previous one is closed (ex. Fall opens 8/4, since summer closes on 8/3)
Please note, every student will have a bill regardless of the benefit type being used.
Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) will not show on the bill until payments are received from the VA. This occurs sometime after the add/drop period has ended
You will not be able to enroll in the plan if you have an unpaid bill from a previous term
You will not be able to enroll if you have not registered for classes/ Do not have a bill posted yet
You will not be able to enroll if you have a 0 balance or do not owe anything on your bill
Instructions for the Military Services Deferment Agreement Enrollment
- Go to ssb.rowan.edu and log in.
- Click on the "Bursar" tab.
- Click on the "ePay Center" link.
- Once you arrive to the ePay Center homepage, click on the "Enroll in Payment Plan" button.
- Select a term from the menu and click the "Select" button.
- Click "Select" next to the plan you wish to enroll in (Military Services Deferment).
- Review the details of the payment plan and the payment due date.
- Select your desired automatic payment option (automatic payments are optional; select "No" if you do not want a payment to be processed automatically).
- Click "Continue"
- Read and review the Payment Plan Agreement. Check the "I agree" checkbox and click "Continue".
