The Rowan Experience

Rowan University's Construction Management program offers flexible online classes and caters to part-time, working learners. Whether you're an apprentice looking to bolster your technical training with soft skills and deep knowledge of the industry or a seasoned journeyperson aiming to refine your leadership abilities, students of every level can excel in these esteemed programs, housed within the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering.

The Construction Management certificate will introduce students to the history of the building trades and how the fragmentation of the construction trades has evolved over the years starting with a master builder to the current market conditions. Students will learn the roles & responsibilities of the main construction project participants, including project owners, architects, engineers, construction managers, and subcontractors. The certificate covers the standard design phases: programming, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction administration.

The Construction Project Management Certificate is intended for students who have a basic understanding of construction processes and are prepared for more in-depth industry knowledge. After completing this certificate, students can estimate construction costs, including direct and indirect project costs, perform job cost analysis, and forecast cost to completion, labor, material and equipment expenses, cash flow, overhead, profitability, and general condition costs. Students will also learn scheduling and planning techniques essential to managing a construction project, including critical path methods, work breakdown structures, activity durations, resource allocation, replanning, monitoring, and updating of construction projects.

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Construction Management is designed for students interested in leadership development and a 360-degree industry perspective. Students will learn essential aspects of the construction process such as budgeting, scheduling, safety, quality, and scope. Students will also learn advanced leadership and communication skills and complete a capstone course. This comprehensive degree equips graduates with the skills to supervise, manage, and inspect construction sites, buildings, and related facilities.

The Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program is a graduate degree intended to provide working professionals with the leadership skills they need to advance to management level positions. Students will explore administrative procedures such as organizational behavior and teamwork, strategic decision making, and supervising. The combination of engineering and business courses provides an ideal balance of advanced technical concepts and managerial skills with a focus on project management.

Backed by the endorsement of North America's Building Trades Unions, the program has deep partnerships with local unions across the nation to ensure course content is highly relevant to skilled tradespeople.
