The Rowan Youth Jazz Collective is a creative jazz program for motivated middle school and high school musicians.

Moving beyond the traditional “rehearse for one concert” model, the ensemble will function as a collaborative workshop where students build real-world musical skills through performance, exploration and creativity.

Focus Areas

  • Jazz ensemble playing and sight reading
  • Improvisation and solo development
  • Composition and arranging
  • Small-group collaboration
  • Creativity, listening and musical confidence

What Makes It Different

Students will:

  • Explore a wide variety of jazz styles
  • Work in both full ensemble and small combo settings
  • Develop original ideas and student-led projects
  • Learn by creating, not just rehearsing

Performances, showcases and recording opportunities will grow naturally from the creative work happening throughout the semester.
