The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program
The Japan Exchange and Teaching Program is a program funded by the Japanese
government that sends about 6000 college graduates under the
age of 35 to Japan for one to three years, primarily to teach English
in Japanese junior and senior high schools. Although most students who
win
these grants serve as language teachers, positions are also available
for graduates to work in government offices on projects related to cross
cultural awareness. Other students work as sports exchange advisors,
working with local governments and schools in designing sports programs
and training local athletes. The program pays airfare and living expenses
for one to two years in Japan. Applications are accepted from students
with strong academic backgrounds from all majors; students
with a secondary or elementary education background are especially encouraged
to
apply. No Japanese
language requirements. For more
information about this program, go to their web site at http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/jet/index.html.
Applications for this program
can be obtained from Dr. Corinne Blake, History Department, Robinson
(blake@rowan.edu, 256-4500, x3991) or by calling 1-800-463-6538. The
application is due December 6 each year!
