Rowan and Salem County schools renew articulation agreementsOctober 08, 2007
Rowan University and the Salem County Arts, Science and Technology Academies, which are administered through the Salem County Vocational Technical Schools in partnership with the Penns Grove-Carneys Point Regional School District, the Pennsville Township School District, and the Pittsgrove Township School District, recently renewed articulation agreements with the university's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and College of Engineering. These articulation agreements provide qualified Salem County Arts, Science and Technology students with guaranteed seats in the highly competitive Rowan University admittance process.
The agreement with the College of Engineering provides an opportunity for the students in the Arts, Science and Technology Academy of Engineering and Technologies that is hosted at Penns Grove High School with both a senior year on-site Rowan University experience and the opportunity for acceptance into the College of Engineering program. The original agreement was signed in November 2002 and was recently renewed with both Rowan University and the Salem County Board for Vocational Education. The second agreement, recently renewed with the Rowan University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, is for students enrolled in the Arts, Science and Technology Academy for Biological and Medical Sciences that is hosted at the Salem County Career and Technical High School. This agreement was originally signed in February 2004.
Students completing the rigorous requirements of both academies who meet the following criteria have the opportunity for automatic acceptance into these two prestigious colleges at Rowan University. The criteria are as follows:
- Successful graduation from the Salem County Arts, Science, and Technology Academy Programs identified in the agreement.
- SAT (combined verbal and math) of at least 1200 with a minimum of 550 in math using the old scoring method.
- Ranking in at least in the top 20 percent of their graduating class with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Commenting on the articulation agreements and what they mean to students who attend Salem County Arts, Science and Technology Academy programs, SCVTS District Superintendent Dr. William H. Adams said, "As a direct result of the partnerships that have been developed with Rowan University, students enrolled in these highly rigorous academy programs have the opportunity to enroll in highly competitive outstanding higher education programs that are offered through Rowan University. The renewal of these articulation agreements through our continuing partnership with Rowan University provides our students with the opportunity to continue their education at an outstanding regional university."
Dr. Ali Houshmand, provost of Rowan University, said, "Rowan is pleased to extend these articulation agreements with Salem County Arts, Science and Technology Academies. Not only do the agreements benefit Salem County's high school students, they benefit Rowan as well by preparing and identifying the next generation of college students who can succeed in our demanding programs and contribute to our region."
In addition to enrollment articulation agreements with the College of Engineering and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Salem County Vocational Technical Schools has six articulation agreements in place with Rowan's College of Fine and Performing Arts. They include the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts instrumental and vocal music programs that are hosted at Pennsville High School and the dance, drama and visual arts programs that are hosted at Schalick High School. An articulation agreement also was signed last year with the College of Fine and Performing Arts for students who graduate from the Academy of Graphic Design in Multimedia Technology that is also hosted in Pennsville in partnership with the Pennsville Township Board of Education. Rowan University boasts seven colleges: Business, Communication, Education, Engineering, Fine and Performing Arts, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the College of Professional and Continuing Education.
