Rohrer College of Business Incubator offers writing seminarAugust 12, 2009
“Keep it simple,” Jon Praet told more than two dozen people who attended the Rohrer College of Business Incubator’s Writing Seminar for Entrepreneurs on August 6.
Praet, president of WritingHelp.com, Ocean, explained that writing to impress can often be self-defeating.
Plain language, he said, is important in part because it is easier for readers to understand, it is not patronizing and it creates a positive business image.
Praet, who numbers among his clients Vermont-based cheese co-op Cabot, spent a few hours providing a writing primer for the business owners and entrepreneurs. In addition to writing fundamentals (use an active voice, proofread over and over again, and don’t trust your spell check), he touched on email etiquette, web text, brochures, case studies, direct sales letters, newsletters, press releases and other business and marketing documents.
Praet’s presentation was part of regular workshops provided by the Rohrer College of Business Incubator for its tenants. While tenants of the Incubator were the main focus for this workshop, entrepreneurs from the community at large also were invited to attend. For more information, visit www.rowan.edu/cie/incubator.
