Biography
Barbara Baals has worked in higher education media and public relations for nearly 30 years—almost 20 of those at Rowan University. She has landed stories in a host of major media, including The New York Times, USA Today, ABC News, National Public Radio and The Washington Post, and has won awards from CASE, CUPRAP and PRSA Philadelphia for her feature writing and public relations work.
Barb covers the College of Education, the College of Humanities & Social Sciences, the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine, the John H. Martinson Honors College, and Student Affairs.
Before joining Rowan, she was assistant director of the news bureau at Temple University, her alma mater. For a decade earlier in her career, she covered sports for the Courier-Post and was a community newspaper reporter and editor. Active in CUPRAP, a professional organization for higher education communications professionals, Barb in 2018 received CUPRAP’s Don Hale Award in recognition of exemplary service to the organization.
