Pathway Program

Pathway Program (Bridge Program for Undergraduate Freshmen Only)

If you meet all the requirements for admission to Rowan except for an acceptable language test score, you may be eligible to enter the University through this program, which provides special for-credit English classes during your first year of study to help you improve your skills. The program is intended for students with a minimum TOEFL score of 70 (minimum writing band score 20) or IELTS minimum score of 5.5 (minimum writing band score 5.0).

Pathway classes: 

Pathway classes are credit-bearing academic English classes that will help students improve academic language skills during their first year of undergraduate studies.

  • ESL 08110 ESLI:Academic Reading Skills (3 credits)
  • ESL 08111 ESLII:Academic Writing Skills (3 credits)
  • ESL 08112 ESLIII:Oral Presentation Skills (3 credits)

Semester 1:

  • Pathway classes (9 credits)
  • Additional freshman level classes (3 - 6 credits)

Semester 2:

  • Foundations of College Writing (3 credits)
  • Additional freshman level classes (9 - 12 credits)

The Pathway classes are offered for undergraduate credit only.

Eligibility Requirements

  • University undergraduate academic admission requirements, AND
  • One of the following language requirements:
    • TOEFL score between 70-78 OR
    • IELTS score of 5.5 (with a minimum writing score of 5.0) OR
    • Successful completion of Level 5 in the ELP with a minimum GPA of 3.0

Unique Components of the Pathway Program

Students begin working on their bachelor’s degree while improving their academic English.

  • Students receive university admissions letter and I-20
  • Students may be able to complete their bachelor’s degree in four years
  • Students receive the extra support of a strong learning community
