History of the Rowan University/Community
Orchestra
Where
is Rowan???
Rowan University's Department of Music offers
students two orchestral ensembles.
The Chamber Orchestra offers an opportunity
to perform music of all periods in a demanding and professional
environment. This ensemble of approximately 25 performers presents
two concerts each year and serves as the orchestra for university
opera productions and collaborations with Rowan Dance Extensions.
Membership is open to students with advanced ensemble skills,
by audition.
The University Community Orchestra
is an ensemble of approximately 60 performers drawn from the university,
along with high school students and adults from the surrounding
region. This orchestra presents 3 evening concerts annually, along
with Young Peoples Concerts, an annual High School Orchestra Festival,
and an Annual Soloist Competition. Although quite varied, this
ensemble's repertoire is primarily taken from works for large
orchestra. Community members wishing to join should contact Maestro
Scarpa at (856) 256-4500 ext. 3529 or scarpa@rowan.edu for more
information. The Community Orchestra is funded in part by the
Rowan Student Government Association.
You can reach Maestro Scarpa at (856)256-4500, X3529 or by email
at scarpa@rowan.edu.
