Welcome to the Student Health Services
The mission of the Student Health Services (SHS) of Rowan University strives to remove health-related barriers to learning, to promote optimal wellness, to enable clients to make informed decisions about health issues, and to empower students to be self-directed and well informed health care consumers.
All matriculated students who are currently taking classes at Rowan are provided services at the Student Health Services. The SHS focuses on preventive care and the treatment of acute illnesses and injuries. Our health services does not take the place of a primary care physician. While the center can handle most needs, students with more serious disorders requiring hospitalization, laboratory, diagnostics or specialist care will be referred accordingly. The SHS does not cover the cost of prescription drugs, laboratory procedures, x-rays, or other referrals.
If a student is referred to another agency or health care provider, it is done at the expense of the student. Prescriptions for medications, referrals for lab work and x-rays are also the responsibility of the student.
Mandatory Pre-Entrance Health Forms & Requirements
Before you enter Rowan as a student, you must meet certain requirements pertaining to health information. Health forms are required of all full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate students. The mandatory pre-entrance health forms were included in your acceptance folder (Personal Information & Consent, Health History, Tuberculosis Screening, Meningitis Information & Response, Immunizations and Physical Examination). See Mandatory Pre-Entrance Health Forms for more information.
An Immunization Hold will be placed on a student's records until all required documents are provided. Holds may prevent students from registering for upcoming classes, dropping or adding future classes, or receiving grades, so it is important to turn these documents in as soon as possible. In addition, up to $100 in late fees will be charged for missing the appropriate deadline for submission of Mandatory Pre-Entrance Health Forms.
Health requirements are due no later than July 15th for incoming Fall amission, December 15th for Spring admission and April 15th for Summer admission.
Student Health Insurance
All matriculated students are required to have health insurance as a condition
of full time enrollment at Rowan University for the 2013-2014 academic year.
However, the New Jersey State law has recently changed. Senate Bill No. 2291,
signed into law on July 5, 2013 as P.L.2013, c.78, eliminated the State’s
statutory requirement that all full-time students at public and private
institutions of higher education in New Jersey have health insurance coverage.
The law still requires all universities to offer health insurance coverage to
Students that do not provide proof of their own insurance (by completing a waiver online) will be automatically enrolled in the University's plan provided by UnitedHealthcare. See Health Insurance for more information.
