Emergency Incident Updates

Rowan University utilizes its Rowan Alert mass messaging system to communicate with students, employees and community members about an emergency or a safety-related situation. If the incident were prolonged, members of the broader Rowan community would be directed to this webpage for regular updates and lists of resources.

Sign up to receive notifications about system downtime in the way that best suits you, including email and text messages.

Faculty who may have communicated alternate plans are encouraged to affirm previous communication to students to ensure clarity.

Students are encouraged to check for additional communication from their faculty but should assume their most recent communication by their professor still stands.

Canvas Currently Unavailable (May 7th, 8:15 P.M.)

Canvas is unavailable at this time. Instructure, the parent company of Canvas, is investigating the issue and has not provided additional details.

Canvas breach: What you need to know (May 7th, 8:15 P.M.)

Instructure, the parent company of Canvas, has confirmed that it was the target of a data breach that exposed student information.

The exposed data includes directory information, such as: 

  • Names
  • Email Addresses
  • Student ID numbers

Messages among users were also exposed during this breach, according to Instructure. If you have concerns about the integrity of your messages, please contact us at support@rowan.edu to further investigate. 

Rowan University does not share confidential information, such as social security numbers and birth dates, with Canvas.

We are closely monitoring this situation, and we will provide additional updates, as necessary.
