Biography
April Patrick graduated with a B.A. in English and Secondary Education from Schreiner University. She completed her M.A. at University of Houston in 2007 and her Ph.D. at Texas Christian University in 2011, both in English and Women’s Studies. Her book Women’s Health in Britain and America: Texts and Contexts (Palgrave, 2023) considers women’s experiences with pregnancy and childbirth, abortion and contraception, and breast and uterine cancer. For her next book, she is analyzing messages about health and wellness in global Anglophone women’s magazines since 1800 and is collecting examples to create a digital resource on the topic. Her other recent publications include essays in Victorian Periodicals Review, Nineteenth-Century Gender Studies, and Victorian Review and the collection Medicine, Heath, and Being Human. Since 2010, she has also been Co-Director of the Periodical Poetry Index, a bibliographic research database of poetry published in nineteenth-century magazines and newspapers.
