Transfer Admission Requirements

The BSW Program will begin taking junior transfer students (Students with 60 credits or less) beginning Fall 2027

Requirements:

  • No more than 60 transfer credits
  • Minimum Overall GPA of 2.5
  • B or better in all required social work or social work prerequisite courses (2.8 Major GPA)
  • Completed transfer application

Completed Coursework Prior to Admission:

  • SOC 08.120 Introduction to Sociology
  • SWK 01.100 Introduction to Social Work
  • SWK 01.200 Introduction to Human Behavior in the Social Environment
  • SWK 01.205 Advanced Human Behavior in the Social Environment
  • SOC 08.223 Sociology of Social Welfare or SWK 01.223 Macro Social Work and Social Welfare
  • SWK 01.320 Applied Ethics in Social Work or HSRV 01.320 Applied Ethics in Human Services

Students may start the required 12 s.h of approved social work electives*, but are not required for admission

Fourth Year

  • SWK 01.450 Senior Social Work Practicum 1
  • SWK 01.451 Senior Seminar 1

Spring:

  • SWK 01.445 Advanced Social Work Practice
  • SWK 01.460 Senior Social Work Practicum 2
  • SWK 01.461 Senior Seminar 2

12 s.h. of Approved Electives* (any level) Elective courses may be transferred at program’s discretion

 

BSW Senior Year Admittance Requirements:

To be placed in Field Practicum I in the fall of senior year, students must:

  • Apply for Field Placement by the deadline in SWK 01315 Disparity, Systemic Inequity, and Social Justice Fall of Junior Year
  • Earn a satisfactory field practicum and professional readiness recommendation from their instructor in SWK 01315 Disparity, Systemic Inequity, and Social Justice Fall of Junior Year
  • Have at least a 2.8 GPA
  • Adhere to and uphold NASW Code of Ethics

Advanced Standing

Students who earn a 3.0 from an accredited BSW and/or at least a B in all BSW major coursework are eligible to apply for Advanced Standing for the MSW at Rowan. Advanced Standing allows students direct entry into the specialization year eliminating up to a full year of course work in the MSW.
