How the content team can help
The Web Strategy & Development content team supports Rowan's web presence by helping departments create, update, and maintain high-quality web content. Whether you need to revise a page, upload a file, fix an accessibility issue, or manage how your content appears in search, we are here to help you thrive.
Browse the service areas below to learn what we offer and what to have ready before submitting a request. When you are ready, use the "Submit a Content Request" button at the bottom of any section to open the intake form. Once submitted, allow 3-5 business days for your request to be reviewed and a member of our team to contact you.
Looking for something else? If your need involves a brand-new website, a full redesign, or a technical issue unrelated to content, visit the Web Strategy & Development homepage or submit a project request.
Check your website ambassador first
Individual departments manage their own web content. If you spot a broken link, a typo, or outdated information, please contact that website’s designated ambassador directly for a faster fix.
Web Services only directly manages high-profile institutional pages (like the main university homepage and core admissions screens). If you submit a routine department update here, our team will route it back to your site's ambassador.
Our Content Services
Page Content & Copy
Need help with the words on your web pages? The content team can revise existing copy, help you plan a new page, audit your site's content for clarity and accuracy, or archive pages that are no longer needed.
What you can request:
- Revise existing web page copy or text.
- Add a brand-new page within an existing site.
- Request copywriting or editing assistance.
- Request a full website content audit.
- Archive one or more pages.
What to know before submitting:
New page requests: We have Google Doc templates for common page types. Review the templates before submitting your request so you can start drafting content right away. New page builds typically take 21 business days from the time content is finalized.
Archiving: When a page is archived, we will evaluate whether a redirect is needed so visitors and search engines are sent to the right place.
**Typical Timeline:**
**3–7 business days**, depending on complexity and required approvals.
Files, Images & Video
Need to upload, replace, or optimize a file, image, or video on your website? The content team handles file management in Cascade and ensures your media meets web standards for size, dimensions, and accessibility.
What you can request:
- Add or replace a file (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Add or replace an image or photo (JPG, PNG, SVG).
- Add or replace a video (MP4).
What to know before submitting:
Images: All images are optimized before upload. We use Squoosh App to compress and resize images for web performance. If you are unsure about the correct dimensions for your page layout, the team will advise you after reviewing your request.
Videos: For video requests, please complete a copy of the Photo/Video Request Blueprint template and attach it to your submission in Section 4 of the form.
PDFs: Before uploading a PDF, consider whether it should remain a PDF. Our canonical approach is to delete unnecessary PDFs, archive outdated ones, convert appropriate documents to HTML web pages, and remediate any remaining PDFs for accessibility. If you have a PDF to upload, the team may recommend one of these alternatives.
**Typical Timeline:**
**5–10 business days**, especially if navigation changes affect multiple pages or require accessibility review.
Navigation & Site Structure
Is your website's navigation getting unwieldy, or does your department need to be added to the faculty directory? The content team can restructure navigation, add directory entries, and help reorganize sites that have outgrown their original layout.
What you can request:
- Reorder the website's navigation.
- Add a new department or group to the Faculty/Staff directory.
- Request a site reorganization.
What to know before submitting:
Navigation cleanup: Sometimes a few consolidated pages and redirects are all that is needed. Other times the site needs a broader reorganization. Describe what feels off and the team will recommend the best approach.
Site reorganization: A reorg involves rethinking how your site fits within Rowan's larger web ecosystem. This is a collaborative process with your content ambassador and may take longer than a simple nav update. The team will set a timeline with you after reviewing the scope.
Accessibility & SiteImprove
Rowan uses SiteImprove to scan all Cascade-hosted websites every five days, checking for accessibility issues, quality problems, and content gaps. The content team can help you resolve issues flagged in your site's SiteImprove reports or perform a general accessibility review.
What you can request:
Accessibility:
- Fix missing or poor alt text on images.
- Fix broken links.
- Fix empty headings or headings out of order.
- Fix misspellings or flagged words.
- Remediate PDFs with accessibility issues.
Quality assurance:
- Improve page load speed or address oversized images.
- Review pages with outdated or placeholder content.
SEO:
- Review pages missing from the sitemap
- Review page title and metadata description.
- General accessibility check on one or more pages.
What to know before submitting:
If you have access to a Siteimprove account, include the specific issue type or page URL in your request so the team can prioritize effectively.
Google Search & Rowan Search
Need to control how your content appears in search results? The content team manages visibility in both Rowan's internal search and Google Search, including adding or removing pages, promoting content by keyword, and clearing outdated listings.
What you can request:
- Add or remove a page or file from Rowan's internal search.
- Promote a page or file to the top of Rowan's internal search based on specific keywords.
- Remove outdated content from Google Search.
What to know before submitting:
Promotion requests: When you ask to promote a page in Rowan Search, include the keywords you want it to rank for. The team will configure the promotion and verify it is working.
Google Search removal: If outdated content still appears in Google results after the page has been archived or redirected, the team can request removal from Google's index. Include the Google Search URL or the search query that surfaces the outdated result.
Redirects & Login Restrictions
Need to redirect visitors from an old page to a new one, or restrict access to a page or directory behind CAS authentication? The content team manages URL redirects and login restrictions across Rowan's web properties.
What you can request:
- Create a redirect from one or more pages to another page or set of pages.
- Add or remove a login restriction (CAS authentication) on a site, page(s), or directory.
What to know before submitting:
Redirects: Please have your origin URLs and destination URLs ready before submitting.
For multiple redirects, download and complete our redirect spreadsheet template and attach or paste the URL to your request in Section 4 of the form.
Login restrictions: CAS authentication controls who can access a page or directory. Specify whether you are adding or removing a restriction, and which pages or directories are affected, and which people or groups are affected.
Looking for something else?
The services above cover most content-related requests. If your need does not fit into one of these categories, you can still submit a request and select "Other" on the form. A team member will follow up.
For requests outside of content (new websites, technical issues, access provisioning), visit the Web Strategy & Development homepage or submit a project request.
