An Extension of the Classroom Program. In this student project, Printmaking students of Professor Krystle Lemonia in the Department of Art, created a series of unique monotype prints using 9x11-inch plates, incorporating fiber elements such as embroidery directly into the paper. Inspired by Qualeasha Wood’s practice, the project encourages students to explore how material choices, particularly the intersection of print and textile, can deepen conceptual meaning. Through Wood’s class visit presentation on her artistic development, research methods, and use of fiber as both medium and message, students are prompted to consider how process and material can reflect identity, intuitive expression, and personal narrative within their own compositions.

Rowan University has one of the few undergraduate programs in Biomedical Art and Visualization available in the country. Students combine artistic talent and strong visual communication skills with natural science and biomedical intellect to create work at the intersection of art, science and medicine. The work on display represents 3D visualization of biological processes. Inspired by the same science as the artists Caroline Healy and John Phillips who created SuperCellular, this work intends to convey a scientific view of the content whereas the gallery installation explores an emotional reaction to the sheer complexities of life.

In partnership with Clearview Regional High School, Rowan University’s Department of STEAM Education, College of Education, and Philadelphia-based artist Claes Gabriel, the Power Masks project invites students to create their own sculptural masks allowing exploration of personal identity and autobiographical narratives through creative portraiture. A key goal of the project is to bring an artist directly into the classroom setting. To do this, the project launched with a visit to Gabriel’s studio, followed by a teaching demonstration to Rowan Art Education students, and an artist presentation to Clearview Regional art students. The Art Education students will use their new-found skills, knowledge, and inspiration to teach Clearview Regional students the unique art of mask making.
Co-organized with Professor Jane Graziano of Rowan University and Clearview Regional High School’s Art Teacher Sandra Koberlein.
