Community Outreach & smART Program

Saturday Morning Art (smART)

Welcome to smART

For more than 30 years, the Saturday Morning Art (smART) program at Rowan University has been a beloved creative tradition for families across South Jersey. We invite young artists in grades K–8 to explore, imagine, and create in a fun, supportive studio environment.

Your Children Will Experience

Children enjoy nearly two hours of hands‑on artmaking each week, experimenting with drawing, painting, ceramics, 3‑D construction, mixed media, and printmaking. Small class sizes ensure plenty of individual attention as students build skills and confidence through meaningful creative play.

Who Teaches smART

Classes are taught by Rowan Art Education majors completing supervised teaching internships with faculty who bring years of public-school classroom experience. Families can feel confident knowing their children are learning from caring, well‑prepared future art educators.

Beyond the Classroom

SmART families also enjoy access to the Rowan University Art Gallery, where children can see inspiring contemporary artwork up close. smART also partners with local high schools involving teens in exciting community projects such as public murals, Empty Bowls fundraisers, and the Brooklyn Library’s The Sketchbook Project.

Join Our Creative Community

Affordable, welcoming, and community‑centered, smART offers a joyful space for children to explore their creativity while future teachers gain valuable experience. We’re proud to serve families across southern New Jersey and look forward to welcoming your young artist to our studio.
