Led by program faculty and current Music Industry students, this program offers campers a hands-on learning experience on key aspects of music technology and the music industry. Campers do not have to be musicians to attend! With special topic sections like songwriting and DJ-ing, any student interested in gaining practical knowledge and skills in both music technology and business will benefit from this camp.
All campers complete both individual and group projects and will have a chance to present their work and receive feedback for improvement and support from faculty and fellow campers (a great piece for college applications!) By the end of the week, campers will have enough knowledge to be able to continue independently and expand their work for their portfolios.

All campers should bring their own over-the-ear headphones to camp. We recommend the Sennheiser or Audio-Technica (all available on Amazon).

Camp Staff
Music Technology & Business Camp Director Mathieu Gendreau is a music producer, composer, recording artist, and label owner. His creative and research areas include producing a professional recording, scoring to picture and video games, negotiating contracts, touring and publishing. His music productions have been released by labels such as EMI, Mute, Virgin, Sony, Tommy Boy, Ministry of Sound and Universal, and artists including Goldfrapp, New Order, Arthur Baker, Tommie Sunshine, CLIENT, Erasure and King Britt. As a recording artist, Mathieu is half of the indie-electronic duo Plastic Operator. The band caught the attention of BBC Radio 1 DJ Rob Da Bank with the song "Folder" in 2005 and the single was signed to Sunday Best Recordings. In 2007, Mathieu launched his own label, Fine Day Records, and released Plastic Operator's album "Different Places" to critical acclaim. The band performed live in many of Europe's largest clubs, events and festivals including Bestival (Isle of Wight), Razzmatazz Club (Barcelona), Petrol, Culture Club (Belgium) and Paris Fashion Week. Mathieu has produced numerous remixes, including "Chains of Love - Plastic Operator remix" for chart-topping band Erasure (Mute/EMI).
His work as a composer has been featured in films and videos, television programs, advertisements, and video games for Ubisoft, Autodesk, MIT, WYBE, Coca-Cola, Radio-Canada Television and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Games Awards.
Prior to Rowan, he taught at Drexel University in Philadelphia and at the University of Westminster in London, UK. He is a member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), GRAMMY, PRS, MCPS and PPL.
Michael McArthur is an experienced music executive with a great understanding of culture and entertainment. Over the years, he has built entertainment brands and companies into international success stories.
Michael began his career in the sales/marketing division at Universal Music Group Distribution and later served as the Northeast Marketing manager for Island/Def Jam records where he was responsible for the marketing and promotion of artists such as LL Cool J, JayZ, Mariah Carey, Kanye West and more.
McArthur co-founded his management firm, Mama's Boys Entertainment Group, in Philadelphia. The company discovered and helped launch the career of Musiq Soulchild. He served as an executive producer for Juslisen and Luvanmusiq which both debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 charts.
Mama's Boys formed a partnership with leading music industry executive Kevin Liles and his company KWL Enterprises. The management firm represents Grammy Award winning artists such as Estelle and D'Angelo to name a few.
Michael is responsible for discovering, signing, and developing recording artists, songwriters, producers, and disc jockeys. He negotiates major and independent record label distribution for recording artists. He signs songwriters and producers to major publishing companies and has negotiated brand endorsement deals with major companies like Levi Strauss, Coca-Cola, Samsung, Myspace, Tommy Hilfiger and more.
Michael is a member of the Recording Academy-Philadelphia Chapter. He is the recipient of multiple awards including the Gamble & Huff Award from the Black Entertainment and Music Association (BEMA), American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Awards, and he was selected as a Philly 360 Creative Ambassador, an award given to key trendsetters in Philadelphia to promote tourism and the entertainment culture. He has an extensive network of music industry talent, producers, publicists, and legal executives.
With a commitment to mentorship, Michael co-founded the Destined To Achieve Successful Heights (DASH) Program. The program provides students a hands-on experience to explore career opportunities behind the scenes in music, sports, and mass media. (www.dashprogram.org)

Barbara Adams is an audio engineer and educator with over twenty-five years of experience in the mu
sic industry. She specializes in live sound and production management. Her strong and varied experience also includes recording engineer, stage management, and artist management. She has worked in Philadelphia’s top music venues and studios and toured the US as front of house, monitor engineer, and system
tech for several artists and music festivals.Barbara is Lecturer Professor at Rowan University teaching Sound Reinforcement, Audio Recording, History of Popular Music, Survey of Record Production, and guides students in their internships and capstones. As the booking coordinator for Rowan Music Group, our student-run record label, she helps students get real-world experiences in performance and production. She is still active in the industry as working as a freelance Engineer/System Tech for several production companies, festivals, and venues. She is also co-owner of BurnDown Studios in Philadelphia managing their live sound rentals.
Women make up just over 5% of the audio production workforce. Barbara advocates to create more diversity in this industry while she inspires the next generation of techs to follow their dreams in the music industry. She is a member of the Audio Engineering Society, Recording Academy, and Philadelphia chapter president of Soundgirls.
Tyler Sarfert is a music producer, engineer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Finding a passion for music at an early age, he has garnered years of training in both classical and popular music, which has led to many performance opportunities both nationally and internationally.
He received a full tuition percussion-scholarship from Rowan University, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Music Industry. Since then, the music he has been a part of has been streamed millions of times, and reached international radio stations like BBC Radio 1.
In the studio, Tyler has the pleasure of working on records with Grammy-nominated and Grammy Award-winning producers and songwriters from all over the country. In addition to his career inmusic, he has a strong passion for helping others achieve their own goals and aspirations.
FAQs
Should I bring my laptop computer?
Campers are not required to bring their own laptop computer. All campers will be using the Mac computers in the labs for sessions and projects using Ableton Live and Logic Pro X software. Campers may choose to bring it to use during breaks or down time. Campers are responsible for their valuables.
What will we do everyday?
Campers will be taught by Rowan Faculty and day counselors who are current Rowan music industry majors
Do I have to be a musician and play an instrument to attend?
