Biography

Magnus Bennett is a percussionist, educator, conductor, and researcher who works in the areas of performance, music education, and contemporary musical practice. As an educator, he seeks to produce versatile musicians by offering an education in performance that combines technical skill, artistry, creativity, and musical understanding.

Bennett teaches percussion performance skills, which include concert percussion, snare drum, mallet percussion, timpani, drum set, and contemporary percussion techniques. These are taught in styles that range from classical to jazz, rock, funk, Latin, popular, and non-Western music. In addition to percussion, Bennett teaches musicianship, conducting, composition, improvisation, and contemporary composition techniques. Students are encouraged to become thoughtful performers and expressive artists.
