Illustration

The Illustration area emphasizes the development of a student’s ability to understand contemporary themes and concepts and to creatively translate this understanding into inventive solutions. Courses and assignments are built around projects in different areas of the illustration industry (editorial, advertising and publishing, concept art, children’s and comic book, etc.) that develop the student’s ability to recognize clients’ needs and address them in a professional manner. All assignments deal with ideation, critical thinking, and concept design in both traditional and digital production. This objective is accomplished through our collective faculty encouraging students to learn to create a personal and distinctive artistic voice through courses that nurture technical skills, as well as original thinking, coupled with a deep understanding of storytelling traditions.

The goal is to develop the student’s capacity for critical thinking, problem solving, and to stimulate imagination and innovation to a professional level in the use of both traditional techniques and digital methods, and by enabling students to easily adapt to the ever-changing demands of the illustration marketplace.
