High School Biomedical Scholars Program

This experience will guide you through a structured, two-week immersive program alongside talented faculty and graduate student mentors from Rowan-Virtua School of Translational Biomedical Engineering and Sciences (Rowan-Virtua TBES) and Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine (Rowan-Virtua SOM).

You will observe and perform laboratory techniques and experiments used to conduct biomedical research with guidance from mentors in their research specialty. As a program participant, you will have the rare opportunity to participate in Human Gross Anatomy Lab, or an alternate activity, if preferred. You will also receive information about available careers in research and medicine, and guidance for getting accepted into graduate and/or medical school in the future.

The program concludes with a ceremony for you and your family; this will provide an opportunity for you to interact with administration and faculty from various schools and departments representing Rowan University's biomedical education and research programs.

Application Instructions

Program Dates: August 3 – 14, 2026
Time: Weekdays 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Location: Rowan University, Stratford Campus
Deadline to Apply: April 1, 2026

Acceptance Notification: Applicants will usually be notified of acceptance within two weeks of applying.
Tuition: $1,500 and includes all required materials and supplies. Non-refundable deposit ($500) is due upon acceptance into the program. Remainder is due by May 31, 2026.

Eligibility Requirements

Must be a high school student with a GPA of 3.20 or better.
An application along with official high school transcripts must be submitted for consideration.
A recommendation from a STEM teacher is helpful, but optional.
Deadline to submit all documents is April 1, 2026.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received and students will be notified within two weeks of completing their application of acceptance status.
Only complete applications will be reviewed. Therefore, early submission of program application materials is highly encouraged!
Once the program is filled a wait-list will be generated.

Request official high school transcripts to be sent to Dr. Demarest at Rowan University (physical address and email provided below).
Optional: recommendation from STEM teacher

Upon notification of acceptance to the High School Biomedical Scholars Program, you must provide a $500 non-refundable deposit to hold your spot within 14 days of your acceptance and submit additional required forms and documents by May 31, 2026. Final payment is due by May 31, 2026.
